Stephen Sackur, All Praises For Duterte “This is a man who is extraordinarily effective”

The interview between BBC HardTalk host Stephen Sacker and the former Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno has been talked about on social media. One of the reasons for this is that the foreign host is considered as one of the most challenging interviewers today and that Sereno didn’t seem to get past him.

All praises

The whole interview was 24-minutes. However, a line from Sackur that stuck to the Filipino people is the one where he said that President Rodrigo is a “man who is – in political terms – extraordinarily effective.”

Sackur believes that Duterte might be the most popular leader in the democratic country.

“The most recent survey and opinion in the Philippines have Rodrigo Duterte with a satisfaction rating of +70, it truly extraordinary figures, he must be the most popular politician in all of the so-called democratic world,”

He went on by saying more of Duterte’s accomplishments.

“As far as I can see, are you not aware, that the vast majority of the Filipinos seems to actually support his tough security crackdown on the drugs and criminals, they seem to his efforts to bring peace in Mindanao, they seem to support his economic policies delivered last year almost seven percent growth,”

Not pleased

Despite the praises, Sereno never budged. She insisted that despite the popularity Duterte enjoyed, the people should still maintain the constitution and watch the actions of the President.

When asked if she wanted to run for the presidency. Sereno answered that she doesn’t want to run for President, saying that she even didn’t join elections in her campus.

Also, she didn’t want the foreign countries to isolate Duterte, she only wanted “more room for descending voices”.
