Pangilinan On Mayor Halili’s Assasination: “Kasalanan ni Duterte. Another EJK case”

Pangilinan On Mayor Halili’s Assasination: “Kasalanan ni Duterte. Another EJK case”

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is crying foul regarding the killing of Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili of Batangas, who was shot in the chest during their flag ceremony last Monday.

Pangilinan is now insisting that Halili”s death is just another case of extrajudicial killing and that sadly, the mayor was included in the casualties of President Rodrigo Duterte’s War on Drugs.

“This is clearly another case of EJK or killing resulting from the so-called drug war launched by the government. We reiterate: the everyday killings of our citizens do not and will not solve the drug problem…. It is the government’s duty to prevent and solve criminality and the breakdown in the rule of law,”

Others agreed

Along with Pangilinan, who said that the killings in our country are affecting our country’s economic development, Senator Victor Ejercito also chimed in with the accusations.

“It is this Philippine image of a ‘wild, wild west’ that has also dampened the desire of both foreign and local investors from investing, thereby slowing down our economic development and preventing much needed employment opportunities and jobs for our citizens,” Pangilinan said.

“Violent assasinations are black eyes to this goal of achieving peace for economic development,” Ejercito said.

Opposition Senator Bam Aquino, Senate public order committee chairman Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III also gave their views about the matter.

“Mariin nating kinukundena ang lahat ng karahasan at patayan na nangyayari sa ating lipunan. Nakakabahala na talaga ang tumitinding karahasan sa ating lipunan. Kaliwa’t kanan ang patayan kahit sa harap ng maraming tao. Wala nang pinipili ang nagiging biktima. Opisyal ng gobyerno, pari, tambay – wala nang ligtas sa panahon ngayon. Wala nang ligtas kahit saan, kahit sino,” Aquino said.

“The killing of priests, prosecutors, and former and incumbent local officials in broad daylight and in full view of the public may be suggestive of the impunity and brazenness of those responsible for such acts,” Lacson said.

“Criminality in the country has always been alarming, that’s why we want government to come down hard on the criminals and not contradict efforts to do so. [Criminals] have always been bold. This one is a coward. Sniper ang ginamit (A sniper was used),” Sotto said.

Facts about EJK

Just a simple fact about EJK though, before Pangilinan shouts it against the current administration.

Extrajudicial killings is when a certain government kills a criminal (proven guilty or not) without giving him his right for proper trial.

However, with the killing of Mayor Halili, who’s to say that the government was the one who killed him?

Isn’t it more logical to think that the big time drug syndicates killed him because he was already in the Tokhang List of Duterte, and maybe they are scared he will spill the beans?

Think about it.
